Close Call

Spencer was in a car accident last night. He was driving home from work when he was cut off by a driver that just didn't look at the traffiic around her.
No, really, she just was going on her la di da way and ignored everyone around her. Apparently, it is her world and we are just living in it.
Spencer is ok. He is bruised, cut, swollen and angry as hell, but he is ok.
The car, however, is a probably going to be a total right off.
He bought it in May.
I feel awful for him, but the most overwhelming emotion for me at the moment is gratitude.

I am so grateful that Spencer was not seriously hurt.
I am so grateful that nobody else was hurt, or worse yet, killed.

More than anything, I am thanking God that KC was at work and not in the car with Spencer where she usually is.

I have yet another reason to celebrate this holiday season.

I am so glad that he is ok. Car accidents are such scary things!

cindydianne - I am so glad, too.
Is it awful of me to be happy that my kid wasn't there???

Biddie - of course it isn't awful! I think we would all be thinking the same thing!

Why would that be awful, Biddie? I think even Spencer is happy that KC wasn't there!

It's really good that he's alright. He will probably get a new car once this lady's insurance pays... but there's only one Spencer, and he should be thrilled he gets to keep his original parts. ;-)

Those close calls really shake you up in more ways than one.

Just this morning I was BITCHING about all the damn people in cars on the highway. Where the hell are they all going? Jethro told me that if I keep pressing on the go pedal the other cars come up in front of me faster.

Geez.

Honestly I don't know where all these people ned to go, but I am HYPER AWARE when I'm driving, and I think that contributes to the panic. But I kind of think I'd rather be like that or even avoid driving that road, rather than be the moron who's oblivious to all the other cars around her...

Thankful? Hell yes.

The lady said to the police officer and I quote "It was dark, I couldn't see anything and I didn't really look, so I just went." (Last night she was trying to tell Spencer all about rental cars and how to go about doing it. She's standing there lecturing on how to rent a car and Spencer looks at her politely and says " I work for Expedia.ca, rental car companies do not rent to anyone under 21 and if you are under 25 they make you sign a waiver." She still tried to argue with Spencer about the issue and that she is sure he can get a rental car.) Her Honda Civic needs a new front bumper but for the most part her car is okay, the Cougar, not so much. I went and saw it today, not nearly as bad as I thought but it was definately not great. Oh and air bags smell awful, the whole entire car reaks of this undescribeable smell. My favorite part of seeing the car aside from the front bumper sitting in the back seat like it is ready to go somewhere is that the keyless entry still works.
The car may be a complete write off, however the Maaco people have faith that they can do something, it's just the air bags that are going to be a pain to replace.
P.S. Airbags deploy at 600km/hr so I am extra thankful that I was not in the car because I bruise like a peach.

When I went to look at the car today, the people at the towing company would not let us take anything from the car until the bill was settled. I had to argue with the guy about getting my house keys out of the centre console. Serioulsly, my house keys, the bill is settled now and we can get the rest of the stuff tomorrow but that was just ridiculous.

gabriel - Sadly, her insurance is NOT paying and Spencer does NOT have collision. (Don't even get me started).
The car may be a total right off and then he just screwed. I have no idea what he is going to do, but either way he is going to be for this for the next few years.
That is just money, though. I know that money makes the world go round and all of that. Crap. I know as well as anyone. We never have enough and it is a struggle...STILL, it is only money, and Spencer is fine. Like you said, he has no spare parts and he is still in one piece.

Heidi - Now you know why I don't drive. Now I know why you have panic attacks when you do. It is scary as hell out there. I always say that you can be the best driver in the world, but that accounts for...well, not much. It's the idiots around you that really matter.
Can you belive that she was not even ticketed???? I am speechless.

Excellent example of why parents get gray hairs. It's not from aging; it's from raising kids.

Hello all,

I just wanted to let everybody know that I'm doing ok. The Doc at the hospital gave me some good pain killers! Also since the officer that did our accident report deemed that the other driver was 100% at fault...her insurance has to pay everything!!! The Cougar will live on! That being said the impact from the collision exploded the Cougar emblem from the front of the car and I am in search of a replacment. If you know where I can find one please let me know, thanks.
