Whew. Last night was ......... well. Heidi said that the worst thing that could have happened, happened, and I survived. Hows that? That was just the wake, though. Today is the actual funeral. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle things today. Shawn is at work, and TMOC is here. Last night, after the wake, my first stop was the liquor store. Today, I'm ready for anything.

Wish me luck.

Oh, yeah....by the way. I hate when people always say..oooh, doesn't he/she look GOOD when there is a visitation at a funeral home. NO, they don't look good. They look dead. Plastic. Pretend.
Just had to get that off my chest.

Later...................

Is "good luck" an appropriate sentiment for this situation? Likely not, but it is what came to mind. I am thinking of ya?

I remember at my dad’s funeral (and my mom’s, too) the “professional mourners” who go to all the funerals. They are usually the old ladies from the church my parents attended, but they feel it is their duty to go and cry and tell the family how wonderful the deceased was and that they will be praying for the family. Then they would get upset with me because I would laugh at them. They were funny. I guess they are all dead now, too. I should have hung around the hood long enough to tell their family what a wonderful mourner they were. And that funerals are just not the same without them. That is one of the main reasons I WILL NOT have a funeral when I go. I want to be cremated and have my ashes put in a duce bag and run through one last time. Enjoy your day. I would.

The body looks like a shell when dead. The warmth and life has gone on to a different place. Perhaps we should view that cold body as a witness to work that is done!
