My Name Is Bridget ALLEN

I sent away for a new birth certificate at the end of February. I paid an extra $10 for the 5 - 10 business days service.
It finally came - today. What is that? Four -ish months later?

Guess what? It had the WRONG name on it.

I am so mad, but who can I complain to?

Yay for La Goovairnmaunt duh Canada!

I don't know who'd you complain to about it... I've never had to make a complaint. But I will say this: it kind of pisses me off that it's your BIRTH certificate and if you change your surname to your husband's, it's like you never had any other name. Let's have some respect for the name our parent's gave us, y'know?

Having said that, i am not totally sure off the top of my head what name's on mine. I'm not actually sure what my last name really is. Depends who the mail's coming from. It drives my sister craaaaazy!

hahahaha

Oh. But... are you sure that's your name? Because the government is always right...

Gaby still goes by her maiden name, and will never use my last name. In her words, "I'm Gabriela Vera, and I'm circumstantially married to a guy named Gabriel Almada"

Circumstantially? It's been more than 16 years!!! I guess she still has hope... :-)

OMG you will probably have to spend a thousand bucks and two years just trying to get it fixed. At least taht is how my luck would be.

sorry that was supposed to be

"mine has a mistake in the date of birth, when I tried to get it fixed they wanted me to pay all over again for THEIR mistake...the morons."

Whim - Actually, I used a different word when I got the darn thing in the mail...

Heidi - I thought that yours had both names..Yours and Jethros? They kept freaking STANGEN on mine!
ARGH!
They said that I have to do a legal name change, and supply my divorce papers - originals, mind you, at about $35 a pop...
DIVORCE papers!!!!?
Of COURSE we were divorced, I was legally married again after that...Is it just me, or is this ridiculous?

Gabriel - LOL! I know that Allen is actually my ex husbands last name, not really mine, but it is on all of id, my lease, all of legal stuff...I have not used Stangen in ??? 15 years? Come on, get with the program here!
The gov't people told me that my legal last name is still Stangen...OMG.
They MUST be right tho, they are the gov't.

Tod - Good to know that they all have the same standards, then.

Burfica - More like $100 and one year, but close enough..Seems kind of unfair, if you ask me.

Flake - Yeah, I am paying for their mistake, too.
The lady that I spoke with told me that with marriage #1, I did a legal name change...With #2, I didn't.
I told her that I filled out the same papers, both times. KNow what she asked me? What COLOUR were the papers! Good grief! I was married in 89 and 97. I can't remember to feed the dogs and water the birds (lucky there are 5 people in this house LOL), and she wants to remember what colour the papers were!
Funny that you mention the wrong birthdate..My Dad was told that his birth certificate had the wrong birthdate on it. He always thought that he was born in 35. Turns out the date was right and he was born in 34, like birth certificate said.
Man, was her ever mad when he found out!

Isn't your birth certificate supposed to have your birth name on it? Just wondering...

phoenix - Good point, and one that I asked. I got the run around with that question.
First they said that it WAS my birth name...Ummm, what? That was my 1st husbands name. When I mentioned that, I was told that I had legally changed to Stangen. I said ok, but I was married AFTER that, wasn't my name changed legally THEN? She said that, no it wasn't.
The bottom line is that I have to pay to have it fixed and it will be another few months - at least.
I am ok with using the last name Allen until Shawn and I make it legal, but Stangen is not my name, hasn't been in 10+ years and I wouldn't use it again if I was PAID to.
Yuck.

Get married again and start all over. It's cheaper.
