The Worst Advice That I Ever Got, and other tales of woe

Tod recently asked me about the worst advice that I ever got. No question about it. The worst advice that I ever got is all about Rudi. My parents advised me to marry him after KC was born. My father felt strongly that being a wife and mother would "settle me down" and that it was just right thing for me to do with my life. I actually cried all the way down the aisle on my wedding day. I knew that Rudi was just Mr. RightNOW, and that I was making a huge mistake. Still, so many people advised me to marry him. How could so many people be wrong?
The next worst advice I got when it came to leaving Rudi. Things went WAY south a week after the nuptuals. One week, folks. I was advised (by several people, no need to feel badly, here, anyone) to give it another shot. Most of my friends and family didn't know that I had been hit by him only 7 days after the wedding. Most people thought that I was just being flaky, or that I was giving up too easily. I chose to dwell on the fact that if I had left, there would be no Kayla. Maybe it wasn't such bad advice after all....

Ldbug asked about the cheese. I didn't actually get to make any meals with the cheese, but I was planning a huge lasagna. Not just huge, but epic. An epic meal. I never did get to make my meal...

Dilling wants to know about Heidi, Biddie, and highschool.
We actually met in grade 9 english, advanced, of course. Our teacher, Mrs. T was known to burst into tears at any given time during class, and spontaneously give safe sex speeches in the middle of a Shakespearian soliliquy. To say that we loved her would be an understatement. We adored her and her class.
We also had math class together. NOT advanced. I can't speak for Heidi, but I should have been in the class with the high functioning mentally challenged. Really. I saw some of their work. I could've totally nailed it. With a little extra time and a calculator.
I can't even remember our math teachers name. Mr. Something Or Other. I dunno. He kinda got on my nerves, what with the asking of questions and interrupting my goal of writing My Novel. Heidi sat in front of me, and we cheated off of Deb Van Who'sit.
Nice girl.
I can't really say that Heidi got into any trouble. Not really. I lived in town, and she was more rural, so we never saw each other on the weekends. I used to hitchhike with Donnie past her parents farm house, and wonder what it was like to have a 'normal' family. I can't even count how many times I walked past her house, on my home from the next town over.
There were school dances, though. Every Friday at lunch, our school had a soc hop in the gym. It was all of 25 cents to get in (or was it 50, Heidi?) and yet I still snuck in most days. We would gather by the stage, Heidi, Jenny, Jan, and the rest of us, waiting for them to play our favourite song. Tenderness by General Public was always a fav. I loved the soc hops, and to this day when I hear certain songs, they take me back to those afternoons in the sweaty gym. Those sweaty gym memories are some of my best.
Jethro was there, too. He and I weren't exactly the best of friends back then. He spent a lot of time at my house, but it was with my brothers. He was a semi- permanent fixture at my parents place. He was always getting into some kinda trouble with my brothers. One time, Andy, Mike and Jethro set off a pipe bomb at the school bus stop. In front of the local police station. Luckily for my brothers, my dad's cousin was the cheif of police.
Sigh....
Those were the days.

thanks, biddie...i only ever went to one school dance...it was awful. I hung with the undesireables downtown at the bus shelter...stayed out til the sun rose and still made it to my advanced english classes every morning...I still love Mr. Kelleher and couln't stand any of my math teachers(Minton, Moody and Mesodjnicke)...though I spent many summers hanging with Minton cuz he was my uncles sailing buddy...my uncle taught shop at my high school.

Dilling - We went to so many school dances. There really wasn't much else to do in Smallburg. I loved the dances, tho.
I hated all of math teachers, too. oh, wait, except for one. he was actually patient with me and didn't make me stand at the front of the classroom until I had the answer. Remember doing that? I would just stand up there and cry. Alot.
I din't have any relatives teaching at any of my schools - thank goodness. Heidi had an uncle that taught at one of my grade schools, tho. He taught geography, and he was ultra nice. I still failed, tho.

Man, Grade 9 English was awesome. Mrs T's hair was always frazzled, just like her brain. She was awesome.

Math teacher- Mr Burn??? Looked like he got hit in the face with a shovel? Him?

You're darn right I should have done math with the highly functioning mentally challenged...and such a nice way to put it, good job Bid.

Deb Van B. Almost forgot about her. She used to write her name all over her notebooks in big flowing letters.

I remember being drunk at school but I can't remember what grade it was in. You and I didnt really get into trouble together so much as we danced a lot.

Remember how years later we were trying to think of the name of "that song with the guy with the striped hair? "

Who would have guessed that all those years after hitchhiking past my house, you'd have dinner with Sally?

And yeah, Jethro was a TOTAL PUNK ASS. Nuff said.

YOU were drunk at school? Must've been when I was 'away' cuz I sure don't remember.
We had some great times. At Smallburg High and Midtown high....

her indoors - Sorry that you've been so busy. I hope that you enjoy your time off. Are you going away?

You know, I think in grade 9 I was mostly just giggling a lot and being stupid. It would have been grade 10 when I was acting incredibly and illegally stupid.

You should write more about your Out East phase, because I missed out on that! Although the letters were good...

Heidi - Yeah, grade 9 was full of giggles....I was excedingly stupid then..and in grade 10, and in grade 11, and after that......

her indoors - I'm so glad that you're going take some day trips and such. I'm sure that the time will fly by!

Well, that's too bad there's no epic cheese meal! I like the memories of the school dances. We used to have something like that (not every week) in middle school. Just fun:-)

ldbug - Sorry to disappoint you! There will be an epic cheese meal coming, as soon as I am allowed back into the grocery store!

Well, sometimes it makes no sense that something so wonderful can come out of something so bad. Again, God's rewards even when we goof. Or maybe it is God giving that person like your husband a chance to become a human being?

'Twas the opposite with my girls - I knew just about the instant I met future spouses that it would be toxic, but would they listen? No! But I sure have the most gorgeous, sweet, beautiful grand children in the world!

That damn grocery. Do you have an alternative place to shop? I would have, even though I am a pacifist, an urge to throw a grenade in the window.

It sounds like you and Heidi had a great time at school. It is so good that you have both kept in touch :)

You are lucky. I don't think I'm in touch with any of my friends from high school. Have a great weekend.

If you get the chance to make that epic lasagna some day I would like to see a picture of it. I love lasagna!

It's cool that you and Heidi are still such good friends. I'm still tight with some of the guys I grew up with too.

Nice to reminisce like that - old friends are the best, so many memories were shared.

As for the advice, well... something good came out of it all, so that's the main important thing.

Worst advice I ever got was "Don't drink alcohol". Fortunately I ignored it from age 14 to now and have discovered the delights of vodka, beer, scotch (single malt), schnapps (recently), gin, brandy.....
