On this day in 1966, The Monkees T.V. show premiered. Some people out there may think that this is no big deal. Consider this- without Davy Jones, where would Axl Rose have learned his cool dance moves? Don't believe me? Check out the clips below.
Oh my gosh, that is incredible. I mean it. I never would have seen that.
I think that's the best video comparison I've ever experienced!
God help me I still love Axl. And have memories of liking that little Davy Jones when I was a kid. Maybe he's the reason for my fixation with British men.
My horse always reminded me of Axl Rose: red haired and cocky!
Who doesn't love the Monkees? I love the Monkees, and Neil Diamond, and The Forgotten Rebels...The punk side of me is disgusted with the easy listening side of me...
nonny - I loved that episode! I loved all of the singing ones, too.
gawilli - not old! experienced.
ldbug - I thought that the connection was obvious. I guess now we know what keeps me awake at night...
marni - I don't have an i pod...but I have been known to blast my Monkees cd now and again to cheer myself up...it seems to depress everyone else in the house..

I've been saying it for years..Uncanny,isn't it?
Mike Nesmith was my favourite monkee...I always like the oddballs...though not as odd as Mickey.
He was my favourite Monkee, too. His mom invented liquid paper. Weird that I know that.

Loved the Monkees. Still like 'em. Not very punk that is it?
You know, I knew that about Nesmith's mom, too.... there is too much of my brain devoted to useless trivia...

In 1966 I was 11. The Monkees were pretty cool, and much more accessible than the Beatles. I used to ditch 4-H meetings to watch them. Boy am I old.
OMG that is classic!
Didn't you love when Davey Jones was the guest star on The Brady Bunch? That's my favorite episode.
