Friday Night

What a weekend...Hubby and I went to the movies. This was a fairly monumentous event in light of our little cash flow problem. We decided to see Saw 3 and forgo the snacks and drinks, just paying the price of admission. We generally hit the movies every couple of weeks, so I was chomping at the bit to get out and see a new movie.
The movie was great. It was over the top gore and horror. I even had to look away from the screen a couple of times. ME! The former morgue worker, the horror movie queen, looked away!! I still can't believe it.
The whole evening would've been wonderful if it hadn't been for the incessant thump-thump-thumping on the back of my seat. And the chatty Cathy's talking all the way through it. Twicw Hubby asked the guys sitting behind us to PLEASE stop kicking the seat, PLEASE stop talking. I'll never understand WHY some people pay admission to the movies and talk all the way through it.
At the end of the movie, I told the two 20 something boys that they had ruined the movie for me. The one kid, on crutches, turns to me, and says 'what are you going to do,punch out a cripple?'
Now look, I was pissed, but I wasn't about to punch anyone out in the lobby of a movie theatre. Not even a loud mouth, ill mannered, howler monkey on cruthches.
His friend, the seat kicker, looked like he was about to cry. I thought that I might get an apology out of him. I might have, to, if Howler Monkey would've shut up.
I told the loud mouth that I had an 11 year old at home was better behaved ( I do), at which point, I swear, the Seat Kicker had tears in his eyes.
Howler Monkey just couldn't shut up.
He cursed me out, screamed, threatened, and called me names, at which point I was about ready to punch out the cripple.
I responded with 'your parents must be so proud.'
They eventually left, and we waited a couple of minutes, and walked the other way. I was ready and willing to laugh the whole bad expirience off until a van load of men drove by and drilled a huge can at my head.
Seriously.
I wish that I would've tripped the Howler Monkey.
I phoned the manager at the movie theatre to let him know what had happened. His response to me?
"Sounds like a typical Friday night."
He gave me 2 free passes to the movies. I think that we'll go again, just not on Friday night. Either that, or I'm wearing a helmut.

Yeah, at least you stuck up for yourself and got free tickets!!

The worst, no..wait..the second worst for me was going to a rated R movie, not at all appropriate for kids, and having a fat lady with like, 6 kids under the age of 5 with BALOONS come in and sit in front of me!! What a bitch!!

I told the manager, who should've kicked her out, but he did give me a free ticket. I've since discovered Sunday nights are the best. Even having to work the next day, I'd rather enjoy the film, then just go straight to bed when I get home.

Oops, BALLOONS (told you I was a rotten speller!!:-)

That sounds like our luck. We always get stuck behind balloon ladies, seat kickers, cell phone users, or my fav, the get-a-room-would-ya? couple.
I think that we're going to see Open Season with J this week. Hopefully it'll be a much better night out. Oh well. At least we get a free movie. Wonder if I'll need my helmut?

What a freakin' punk. At least you said something... I would've kept my mouth shut and then bitched to Carl about it. Of course, if he was with me, he would have said something sarcastic to them.

I hate kids these days. What a punch of self-centered punka$$es...

I swear, the little non-hobbled guy seemed sorry. My Hubby is a big guy, and he seems to intimidate a lot of people, but not the Howler Monkey. I'm glad that I said something, too, because otherwise I would've been SOO upset all weekend. I'm laughing about it now, but it was such a piss off at the time.....

I really think this is part of the reason that movie theaters are becoming obsolete.

I mean.. availability is a big part, but I've been hearing stories like yours for a few years. It just isn't enjoyable anymore to pay that kind of money to be in a theater and not enjoy it. Good on you for saying something. This stuff happens so often here, that I dont even say anything anymore.

It just sucks....

I don't know if I perceive bad behaviors differently now, but it sure seems like there is a whole lot more of them.

she said - Poeple just don't seem to care anymore. I'm 37, and there are still times when I think about whether or not I would do/say something in front of my Dad. If it's something that my Dad wouldn't approve of, I probably shouldn't be doing it....Too bad more people didn't think twicw before they said/did something inappropiate...
It's cheaper for me to but a movie than to take my family of 5 to the theatre...A night out at the movies is looking less attractive to me now...

It's getting bad here too. The last couple of times I had someone behind me describe to her friend what was about to happen next ALL THE WAY THROUGH! And someone taking calls and laughing REALLY loudly. Such appalling behaviour!

I once mortified G by asking the woman next to me not to chat to her friend during The Lord of the Rings trailer. She just didn't get it at all.

personally, I really hate the theatre...I wonder when the last time the seat was cleaned, what did I just step in?, why is the armrest sticky?, hate the people talking, hate it when I'm shushed(hypocritical, ain't I?), hate missing scenes to go to the bathroom where there is invariably no toilet paper, the smells a crowd of people generate, not being able to comfortably hold Michael's hand, the volume, the knowledge I just paid half a weeks grocery budget on admission and a small sprite... argh... it really is rough on my psyche...

sorry but i think i would have tripped up the lad on the crutches, ASS-HATS!

Biddie said...

her indoors - I wanted to!!! After the screaming and cursing, of course. I was so polite, honestly. I didn't even call them names! I should've called him an ASS-HAT...

dilling - I may never go to the movies again..You've given me so much to think about...We only paid the admission price on Friday, $13.00. If we go with the kids...Oh man, you're right, there goes the grocery budget!

tod - Hubby usually is the one mortifying me, but on Friday I was the one that wouldn't pretend that I wasn't pissed. Some people!

See... I always become somewhat frozen, because I can't believe people are acting so poorly. I have this internal dialog that just wants to freak out, but the other half of my brain wants me to be rational. Then I just know that these days people just don't get it and wont let it go, so I'm just going to wind up being arrested.

After my last encounter with an Ass-hat, my daughter really lectured me. Be careful, mom, they might hurt you bad. Just passing that on. We're living in a different world.

I'd invite you to the theatre here - its VERY quiet - the seats are like from the 50's, sort of like airline seats, one can get half their hiney in them. Most of the movies are about two years old, so everyone has seen them on video. As I said the theatre is VERY quiet.

Edieraye and I have movie club. We try to go once a week. Usually, if we make it once a month we are lucky. However, we tend to go in the middle of the week in the middle of the day. No crowds and certainly no punks to deal with. Occassionally we share the theatre with others, but often it's just us. It is nice.

But, when KB and I go together we tend to go during more traditional times. It's more crowded then. But I have been miserable in a movie since Harry Potter (the last one, can't remember now) came out last year. That theatre was so full up that we all had to split up. ugh!

Much as I'd love to simply blame today's youth, they really get it from adults who model similar rude behavior. Case: Honors Society Awards Ceremony, 2 weeks ago. 140 high school students to receive honors and high achievement awards. Several times the ceremony was interrupted by a ringing cell phone (and not one of the students' phones). Then, 2 adults conducted their tel. business inside the auditorium. Since the awards were distriubuted alphabetically, many parents whose children had received awards early left before the T's had even crossed the stage.
There's never an excuse to be rude or disrupt someone else's good time, regardless of your age. Oh, well, maybe if you're 118 and snore...maybe then!
Hope your next trip to the cinema is less eventful.

Umm, Christine, were you at the same awards ceremony as me, 2 weeks ago? My daughter got an academic award 2 weeks back....Very strange..Are you in Ontario? Kitchener, maybe?
Thanks for stopping by!

My daughter attends high school in Burlington, ON. I really hope that there isn't so much rudeness to go around that parents at your daughter's presentation behaved as deplorably as at our own! Congrats to your daughter on her achievements.

Doesn't it make you want to pull their pants down and spank them really hard right there in front of everyone? What a little $hit.

So how do you compare Saw 3. I loved the first one. Thought it was a really well written - freaky movie. It left you wondering what just happened, and who was responsible. Saw 2 I thought was pretty good, but not as good as the first one. Definitely bloody but not as freaky. Is Saw 3 really worth seeing?

Hope your head is OK!

I liked Saw 3. Not much of a story line, but, is that what you're looking for if you're watching one of the Saw movies?
It was pretty graphic. I will probably buy it when it comes out on DVD. I liked it way better than the 2nd.
