I took J to see her specialist today. The news was all good. J has put her weight up from 88 pounds to 100. She also grew a whole 3/4 of inch in two months. Her blood sugars have gone from an A1C average of 12.6 (way too high) to 9.2. Her target is about 7, so we are well on our way.

This is the best that she has ever been, and I am so proud of her determination and hard work. Yay, J!

Grandma J is in the hospital. She fell and broke her hip after over doing it this past weekend. She had dinner with friends and indulged in her favourite drink- whiskey.
I took KC and J to see her, and I can't believe how great she looks for a 92 year old with a broken hip. She is in the early stages of Alzheimers, and was bit confused. She thought that the 3 of us were sisters, and I just couldn't bring myself to correct her. Why upset her? She also thought that Geoff was the dog that she had when she was a little girl, not her grandson. (My ex #2) I think that she was confused because, hey, Geoff is a dog......

I bought a wedding gift for TMOC and the soon to be Mrs.TMOC. The wedding is only a couple of weeks away, and I still have to pop it in the mail. That might be hard to do since Ruby ate it.

Ok, in all fairness, she only ate a part of the leather bound photo album.

The weather has improved drastically along with my mood. There is a lot going on in the family, Gramma J, and Shawn's mom are both unwell, but I still feel remarkably good. Lets hope that this trend continues!

I am glad that J is making improvements and that you are feeling well. I like your decision not to upset Grandma J even though she would probably not remember the incident later. Alzheimer's is a strange and terrible disease.

She's 92? Wow.

yeah, you did the right thing to not correct her and confuse her. It won't make any difference.

That photo of Ruby is awesome! Ws that before or after her little snack?

You kow I'm always pulling for your kid. This is really encouraging!!

Cindydianne - I feel GREAT today! YAY! That damn dog! I love her to death, but sometimes....ARGH! Lucky Violet didn't swallow a battery or something.....Dogs...

MJD - I am SO happy with J's progress...SO proud! I feel like throwing a parade!
As for Gramma J, she can think that I am the sister all she wants!Like I said, no need to upset her!
Alzheimers is an awful disease. I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. I love working with the eldery tho, and no matter what she says, it doesn't phase me...

Heidi - She will be 92 on the 22nd. She looks about 10 years younger, and if it weren't fro the forgetfullness...
I took that photo fo Ruby last week. I got up from the computer for a minute, and when I came back...There she was....

Feeling good is wonderful, when it doesn't happen a lot, eh?

You are so kind to let J believe the things that make her happy...

LOL, my friend's dog ate part of my Bible - I said, well that's a good example of "devouring the Word."

gardenia - It is wonderful to feel good. Wonderful!
It was partly kindness, and partly my training that let J believe the things that make her happy. There really is no need to upset her.
Maybe I should let my dog eat a dog training book? Think that would help? She is so bad, I can't believe it.....

I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling well!

Kudos to J for doing so well on her check up.

I hope Grandma J and Shawn's Mom feel better soon. BTW, my Mom was a nurse that specialized in Alzheimers patients. You did the right thing. Correcting an Alzheimers patient never does any good because it can agitate the person with Alzheimers and they will forget the argument soon anyway. It is best just to agree with them.

whimsical - I am so proud of J! This is the BEST that she has ever been...
I trained with Alzheimers patients, and I love working with them. Some doctors teach you that 'reality orientation' is the way to go, but I disagree. i'm with your mom on this...it just upsets them too much. You're right, give it 5 minutes and they forget why they were upset!

here comes the sun, and I say...it's alright.....
Ruby just "signed" your gift...good for KC and you. Sad news, alzheimer's, it's cruel...bitter and cruel...

dilling - I feel good! Ruby...well, it'a good thing that I love her. I'll keep th ealbum for myself, but now I have buy another one...
Alzheimers is the worst. I did know someonethat had committed some horrible crimes, tho, and when he got it, I thought, this is too god for him..you know what I mean? He got forget about all of that stuff while the victims will live with it forever....

I'm glad you are feeling great! And that's good news about J too!

My stepdad had Alzheimers for a couple of years before he died, most of the time it was hardest on my mum.
